I love the way this animated GIF visually communicates the nature of civil war so clearly. The proximity of each soldier, where each is standing side by side with their enemies, suggests ideas of unity and the “brotherhood of man”. This is reinforced by the use of the centralized circle as an accepted symbol of unity. Each side is then pushing the other side outside of the circle, illustrating broken unity, which is appropriate in this case, since its a civil war (as opposed to an international war). It makes me wonder how a similar GIF could illustrate an international war in such a clear and emotionally impactful way.
The color helps to illustrate opposing sides, but I am not convinced that red and green are the right combination of colors here, unless they have some sort of cultural symbolism in Finland. What do you think?
